Welcome to Grandmamma and to the companion blog where we offer essays, observations and painted work you might call 'atmospheric'.
Grandmamma began in 2006 as a simple repository of my paintings and illustrations.
But the fact is that I have lived off the avails of letters: spilling millions of words of non-fiction and some sprinkles of fiction for longer than I should decently admit. And the paintings, once described as Outsider Art, also have taken on a bit of notoriety.
So in 2012 Grandmamma evolved into a experimental playground for the illustrated essay. Each blog entry or observation is accompanied by a painted work.
For what it's worth I resist all styles and genres since I don't know what they are anyway. Should it matter if we are outsiders, insiders, impressionists, expressionists, contortionists or extortionists?
The painted work is what it is, unquestionably more beguiling now that it is informed by words and ideas. And the words are not so naked now that they are clothed with paint.
You're invited to stick around. Read. Comment. Instigate. Skip lunch. Buy a Painting. Join the fray.
